Enchanting weapons and armors in Skyrim is quite different than in previous chapters. In order to enchant an item one must have three required items; an empty item to enchant, a filled soul gem, and an enchantment itself. These three can then be combined at the Arcane Enchanter linking the chosen enchantment to the chosen item, with the level of soul gem determining the level of the enchantment.
Items and soul gems can be found throughout the world of Skyrim just as they were in the past. However, to learn an enchantment, one must find an enchanted item and destroy it at the Arcane Enchanter to gain knowledge of it's power. Once destroyed, you will then indefinitely learn how to enchant other items with that same property.
So it took me six days to get back here and write after downloading the PC version of Skyrim...
The game is absolutely amazing and has a very interesting refining/crafting systems; my favorite so far is their new system for Alchemy.
In order to craft potions one must first render 'Ingredients', these are anything from mushrooms found deep within an underground tunnel to dragon flies snatched from the waters edge; each ingredient holding it's own enchanting effects.
The enchanting effects of an ingredient can be determined by consuming the ingredient itself or by using that ingredient in a potion attempt. Once consumed, an enchanting property of the ingredient is then learned and can be used to craft potions that correspond to that enchantment.
Once two or more of a like ingredient are attained, you will then need to locate and use an Alchemy Lab. These can be found randomly around Skyrim and will just need to be activated by standing in front of them.
Just started downloading my Skyrim PC version. Purchased through GameStops App. called Impulse. Impulse is a Pretty awesome idea for an application if you're into PC gaming; the app is a one time install that allows you to browse through full versions of PC games for purchase. All the top games are available at the same price as they are if you would like a hard copy. Here you can buy the full PC version on Amazon the cheapest.
The convenience of Impulse is that these games can be bought and then downloaded to your computer withing minutes (mine came in 15). I just didn't see myself waiting for one to come in the mail or try to track one down in retail this time of year (PC versions are actually hard to come by).
Point is, it is nearly done installing and I will have much better graphics and guides posted shortly.
While I seem to be finding endless pre-release information about Skyrim, it is proving rather difficult to find any secret information or guides that have been uploaded to the net.
It's not truly surprising since anyone who will be writing a guide will need at least a few weeks to get comfortable with the new surroundings. It is also nearly impossible to step away for long enough to write down the amazing new things you are finding.
I on the other hand have taken the easy route and purchased the official game guide for Skyrim. Since mostly everything is online now they are selling these things dirt cheap. Take a look.
Creature spawns will not differentiate very much if any from the later chapters of the Elder Scrolls. Skyrim follows the same premise as the third chapter, Morrowind, in which players have a low chamnce to encounter even the strongest of enemies at square one. However, as players level in Skyrim they will notice not only stronger spawns, but more of them as well.
Players will also be pleasently surprised, or terrified by the new additions to the enemy list. Dragons will play a very large part in Skyrim. As a player, you are born of the soul of a dragon.
Dragon will be implemented as a stronger boss-type spawn but will roam the maps just as any other creature. When a dragon attacks it will use 'shouts', which are basically different words the dragon uses while blowing fire, ice, etc. Different shouts will create a different attack. As you travel you will find different temples that contain the words of these shouts written on the walls. Since you are dragon born you can learn and utilize these shouts. Shouts will not use Magicka, they will be completely independent and able to be used by any race with any armor equipped.
These additions to the battlefield and a much greater feel for combat on your character, battles such as this seem almost real. Much more time and care will go into choosing how you plan to defeat such enemies.
The art of fighting will become paramount in the world of Skyrim. Unlike previous chapters, players will not simply be running through foe after foe chopping away. You will now have realistic balance which will require extreme care when choosing which weapon or armor will be effective in various situations.
There will also be improved animations when an enemy is defeated, special move animations as well as magic. Magic is going to be vastly expansive in Skyrim with 80+ spells to learn. However, there will no longer be the ability to create your own spells.
Weaponry and magic in Skyrim is vastly different than anything we have seen in the past. However, it is not truly the weapons themselves that are so different, rather the way they will be used. For the most part all weapon types are accounted for; the only weapon that seems to be missing from Skyrim is the spear type, spears will no longer be implemented in this chapter.
For every loss there is a gain. If you were upset over loosing spears, you will be happy to know that now both of your hands are equally as useful.
Each hand will have it's own capability to either attack or defend, both physically and magically. All weapons and shields will have a attack and defense stat attached to them, shields will have the ability to be used both defensively and offensively. Torches have also gained some useful attributes in Skyrim as well with the ability to bash and set enemies aflame. Hands can be equipped with dual weaponry, dual magic, weapon and shield, or magic and shield.
